FOR YOUTH
INFORMATION BY TOPIC
Like humans, pets can get sick and it is extremely important to care for them in ways that will make them healthy and happy. Depending on the kind of pet you have, you can do a lot of different things to keep them healthy. Here is a good site that can tell you how to best take care of your pet: SPCA.
For information about feeding your pet see: Pet Diets
Pets can also get sick. This can be difficult if have very little money since it can be very hard to find free clinics. These do exist, however, and you can ask at youth services or other youths with pets if they are available in your location. One example is at Chez Pops in Montreal (514) 866-6801. For information on the kinds of problems and symptoms to look out for in your pets, go to Pet Education. For a directory of veterinary services in Canada, go to Pet Education and for the United States see Veterinarian Petcare/.
Each country/area's laws are different, and so are the fees for the tags, but if your dog has its shots and is neutered or spayed it can be significantly cheaper. Call your local SPCA or Humane Society to find out what the laws are in your area. Also, keep in mind that in some districts (e.g., Ontario) some dog breeds may be restricted (for Ontario pit bull legislation, see Dog Owners' Liability Act).
In some cities Humane Society's have food banks for people who have little money. The Toronto Humane Society, for example, has a food bank . Call your local Humane Society to see if they or someone else in your area offers this service. Also, some organizations help with pet food. Ask at your local youth centre.
